September 2004 Recalls/Press Releases

   CPSC, PlayKids USA, Inc. of Brooklyn, N.Y. Announce Recall baby Walkers
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), PlayKids USA, Inc. of Brooklyn, N.Y. is voluntarily recalling about 1,600 baby Walkers. The walkers will fit through a standard doorway and are not designed to stop at the edge of a step. Babies using these walkers can be seriously injured or killed if they fall down stairs.

   CPSC, Natura Products Downey Inc. Announce Recall of Pacifiers
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Natura Products Downey Inc., of City of Commerce, Calif. is voluntarily recalling about 9,400 Jaloma pacifiers. The pacifiers are banned under federal law. They failed federal safety tests, come apart, and can pose a choking hazard to infants and small children.

  CPSC, Delta Enterprise Corp. Announce Recall to Repair Director’s Chairs for Children
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Delta Enterprise Corp., of New York, N.Y. are voluntarily recalling about 81,000 Director’s Chairs for children. The chair can inadvertently be misassembled so that the fabric seat can come off the chair’s frame and expose metal support rods. If fabric seat comes off the frame, there is a laceration and fall hazard to young children.

  CPSC, Performance Inc. and Supergo Inc. Announce Recall of Bicycle Handlebars
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Performance Inc. and Supergo Inc., of Chapel Hill, N.C. are voluntarily recalling about 300 “Forte Flyte OS” and “Weyless CF200” Carbon Handlebars. The handlebars can develop cracks that may not be visible, which can cause the handlebar to break without warning, resulting in serious injury or death.

  CPSC, Reebok International Announce Recall of Toddler’s Athletic Shoes
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Reebok International Ltd., of Canton, Mass. is voluntarily recalling about 140,000 Reebok “Iverson/Answer” toddler shoes. The I-3 logo-tag on the tongue of the shoe can be peeled off, posing a choking hazard to young children.

September is Baby Safety Month and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is asking parents and caregivers to check their home for items that may pose a choking hazard to young children. CPSC also announced a recall that presents a choking hazard due to detaching small parts.

  CPSC, Regal Lager Announce Recall to Repair “Baby Björn” Infant Carriers
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Regal Lager Inc., of Kennesaw, Ga. is voluntarily recalling Baby Björn baby carriers. The back support buckle can detach from the shoulder straps, posing a fall hazard to the baby.

  September is Baby Safety Month; As Summer Ends and Pools Close, CPSC Warns
 Drowning Dangers Remain All Year Long

As part of Baby Safety Month, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning parents and caregivers about in-home drowning hazards. Summer is over and many pools are now closed, but drowning dangers never end. Parents of young children need to know there are other drowning hazards in and around the home.

  CPSC, Hasbro Inc. Announce Recall of Monster Rockets
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Hasbro Inc., of Pawtucket, R.I. is voluntarily recalling about 230,000 Super Soaker Monster Rockets. The cap on the water tank can unexpectedly and forcibly project off when it is quickly unscrewed from the tank, posing a risk of impact injuries to users or bystanders. In addition, the rocket’s tail can strike a user or bystander on descent, if the rocket is not fully launched, posing a risk of injury.

  CPSC, Target Announce Recall of Electric Scooters
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Target Corp., of Minneapolis, Minn. is voluntarily recalling approximately 74,811 Leoch Electric Scooters (also known as “Red Dragon” and “E-Scooter”). Improper wiring can cause a short circuit, posing a fire hazard in the scooter. In addition, inadequate insulation may expose electrical wiring, which poses a shock hazard.

  CPSC, Regal Lager Inc. Announce Recall to Repair Stroller Attachments
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Regal Lager Inc., of Kennesaw, Ga. is voluntarily recalling approximately 11,500 Lascal “Buggy Board” stroller attachments. The Buggy Board’s red connecting pins can break, causing the board to partially detach from the stroller or carriage, posing a fall hazard to the user.

  CPSC, Aviva Sports Announce Recall to Repair Astroslide Water Slides
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Aviva Sports, of Osage Beach, Mo. is voluntarily recalling approximately 7,500 Astroslide Inflatable Water Slides. These water slides have an excessive length of rope attached to the safety mat that presents a risk of entanglement in the water. This poses a drowning hazard to users.

  CPSC, Boston Billows Inc. Announce Recall of Nursing Pillows
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Boston Billows Inc., of Nashua, N.H. is voluntarily recalling approximately 8,000 Boston Billows Nursing Pillows. If infants are placed on these pillows and left unattended, there is a risk of suffocation. Infant pillows and cushions are banned under the Federal law. Infant pillows have a flexible fabric covering, are loosely filled with plastic beads, easily flattened, intended for use by infants under 1 year old, and capable of conforming to the body or face of an infant.

  CPSC, Theraline Inc. Announce Recall of Maternity and Nursing Pillows
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Theraline Inc., of Wendell, Mass. is voluntarily recalling approximately 1,000 Big V Maternity and Nursing Pillows. If infants are placed on these pillows and left unattended, there is a risk of suffocation. Infant pillows and cushions are banned under the Federal law.   CPSC, BMW Announce Recall of SlideCarver Scooters
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), BMW of North America, LLC, of Woodcliff Lake, N.J. is voluntarily recalling 161 SlideCarver Scooters. The front column of the scooter does not meet impact resistance standards. The handlebar column can break if the scooter hits an object, which can cause the rider to fall and suffer injuries.

  CPSC, Meco Corp. Announce Recall of Red Chairs from Children’s Furniture Sets
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC),Meco Corp., of Greeneville, Tenn. is voluntarily recalling about 3,800 Kid’s Essentials Five-Piece Folding Furniture Sets. The red paint on the chair contains excessive lead levels, posing a lead poisoning hazard to young children.

  CPSC, NIKE Announce Recall of Children’s Athletic Shoes
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Nike USA, Inc., of Beaverton, Ore. is voluntarily recalling about 9,000 Nike™ Get-Go and Little Get-Go Children’s Athletic Shoes. The 1.5-inch to 1.75-inch rubber tab at the top of the heel can detach from the shoe, posing a choking hazard to young children.

  CPSC, PTI Sports Inc. Announce Recall of Schwinn Toddler Bicycle Helmets
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), PTI Sports Inc., of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. is voluntarily recalling about about 9,000 Schwinn-brand Toddler bicycle helmets. The helmets do not comply with impact testing requirements in the Consumer Product Safety Act.

  CPSC, PJ Sleep Shop Announce Recall to Repair Bunk Beds
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), PJ Sleep Shop of Portland, Ore., is voluntarily recalling 337 wooden bunk beds. These bunk beds have gaps between parts of the upper bunk end structure that violate the federal safety standard because they pose entrapment or strangulation hazards to children. The spaces exceed that allowed by the federal bunk bed safety standard, which is designed to protect children from entrapment and strangulation.

  CPSC, TOMY Company Announce Recall of Pokémon Plush Toys
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), TOMY Company and Pokémon Center NY, of New York, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 7,400 Pokémon plush dolls, beanbags, and key chains. Tips of sewing needles have been found in the stuffing posing a puncture hazard.

  CPSC, HearthSong Announce Recall of Children’s Toy Balls
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), HearthSong Inc., of Madison, Va., is voluntarily recalling about 22,500 Peek-a-Boo Balls. The wooden rings on the holes of the product may crack, allowing the small wooden heads to fall out and pose a choking hazard to young children.

  CPSC, Determined Productions Announce Recall of Plush Toys Sold at Kohl’s Department Stores
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Determined Productions Inc., of Larkspur, Calif., is voluntarily recalling 90,000 Plush Frog Stuffed Animals. The seams in the toy can tear open and expose small plastic pellets, posing a choking or aspiration hazard to young children who mouth the pellets.

  CPSC, Kindermusik International Announce Recall of "Lily Pad Clacker" Instruments
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Kindermusik International, of Browns Summit, N.C., is voluntarily recalling about 430 "Lily Pad Clacker" Instruments. The green coating on the Lily Pad Clacker instruments contain high levels of lead, posing a risk of poisoning to young children.

  CPSC, Graco Children's Products Announce Recall of Bumble Bee Toys with Blue Antennae
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Graco Children's Products, Inc. of Exton, Pa., is voluntarily recalling about 398,000 Bumble Bee Toys with blue antennae sold with certain Graco high chairs and Graco mobile entertainers, and also sold separately as an accessory and replacement part. The blue antennae on the Bumble Bee toy can break, posing a choking hazard to young children.

  California Company To Pay $200,000 Civil Penalty For Importing and Selling Illegal Children's Toys
 

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is announcing today that Imperial Toy Corp., of Los Angeles, Calif,, has agreed to pay a $200,000 civil penalty for importing and selling childrens toys that violated federal safety standards. To protect young children from choking, aspiration, or ingestion hazards, federal law prohibits toys intended for children under three from having small parts.

  CPSC, Susan Bristol Inc. Announce Recall of Sweaters with Feather Trim
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Susan Bristol Inc., of Boston, Mass., is voluntarily recalling about 1,100 Christmas Sweaters with Feather Trim. The marabou feather trim on the sweaters is dangerously flammable.

  CPSC, Avon Products Inc. Announce Recall to Repair Jack-In-the-Box Toys
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), The Learning Journey International, L.L.C., of Phoenix, Ariz. and Avon are voluntarily recalling 56,000 Jack-In-the-Box toys. A spring mechanism attached to the lid can break and detach from the toy, posing a choking hazard to young children.

  CPSC, Hill-Rom Announce Recall of Rocking Chairs
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Hill-Rom, a Hillenbrand Industry, of Batesville, Ind., is voluntarily recalling 2,900 rocking chairs. The chairs’ support assembly can fail and cause the rocking chair to collapse, posing the risk of injury to the user.

  CPSC, First & Main Inc. Announce Recall of Plush Toys
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), First & Main Inc., of Lombard, Ill. is voluntarily recalling 2,300 Flutterby Plush Toys. The decorative gem stone on the toy’s wings could detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

  CPSC, Zutopia (a division of Wet Seal Inc.) Announce Recall of Girl’s Loungewear
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), The Wet Seal Inc., of Foothill Ranch, Calif. is voluntarily recalling 5,500 Zutopia” Girl’s loungewear outfits. The loungewear failed to meet federal flammability standards for children’s sleepwear posing a risk of serious burn injuries to children. The standard requires sleepwear, including loungewear, to be flame resistant and if the garment ignites, the flame must self-extinguish.

  CPSC, Schylling Associates Inc. Announce Recall of More “Jack-In-the-Box” Type Toys
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Schylling Associates Inc. of Rowley Mass. is voluntarily recalling 14,400 “Jack-In-the-Box” Type Toys. The bead on the crank of the toy can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

  CPSC, LTD Commodities Announce Recall of Fleece Pants with Long Waist Drawstring on Jacket
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), LTD Commodities of Bannockburn, Ill. is voluntarily recalling 11,187 two-piece fleece pant sets. The waist drawstring on jacket is longer than 3 inches when the waist is expanded to its fullest width, and there are toggles and knots at the end of the un-tacked drawstring. This can cause the drawstring to catch on protrusions (such as bus doors or handles), potentially causing injury or death if the person is dragged by the vehicle.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), American Greetings Corp., of Cleveland, Ohio is voluntarily recalling about 17,000 DesignWare® Crazy Bounce Balls. The balls could break apart, posing a choking hazard to young children.

  CPSC, Toys "R" Us, Inc. Announce Recall of Solid-colored and Multi- colored Sidewalk Chalk
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Agglo Corporation, Hong Kong (China), and Toys "R" Us, Inc., Paramus, NJ. are voluntarily recalling about 50,000 packages of multi-colored and solid-colored sidewalk chalk. The multi-colored and solid-colored sidewalk chalk contains high levels of lead, posing a risk of poisoning to young children.

  CPSC Chairman Warns Holiday Shoppers about Hazardous Recalled Toys -- New Federal Web Site Launched -- www.Recalls.gov
 

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Chairman Hal Stratton today warned holiday season gift buyers to be on the lookout for recently recalled toys and children's products that pose serious safety threats to youngsters. To provide consumers easier access to all recall announcements, Chairman Stratton also announced the launch of a new federal government inter-agency Web site -- www.Recalls.gov.

  CPSC, The May Department Stores Co. Announces Recall of Girls' Hooded Fleece Jackets
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), The May Department Stores Co., of St. Louis, Mo. is voluntarily recalling about 57,660 Girls' Hooded Fleece Jackets. The zipper pull could detach from these jackets, posing a possible choking hazard to young children.

  CPSC, Meijer Inc. Announce Recall of Children's Jackets
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Meijer Inc., of Grand Rapids, Mich., is voluntarily recalling about 7,500 children's jackets. These jackets have hood drawstrings. Children can get entangled and strangle in the drawstrings that catch on objects, including playground equipment, fences and tree branches. CPSC knows of numerous deaths from neck/hood drawstrings.

  CPSC, Merit Furniture Distributors Announce Recall of Bunk Beds
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Merit Furniture Distributors, Inc., Brooklyn, NY is voluntarily recalling Merit Bunk Beds. The bunk beds have openings between the guardrails and in the end structures that are too large. A child's body could slide between the openings and could become trapped by the head, posing a serious strangulation hazard.

  CPSC, Planet 3 Announce Recall of Television Stands Sold at Circuit City
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Planet 3, of Deerfield, Ill. is voluntarily recalling Television Stands sold at Circuit City. The television stand can tip over when a television is placed on it, possibly causing injuries to nearby consumers or death to young children.

  CPSC, Schylling Associates Inc. Announce Recall of Jack-In-the-Box-Type Toys
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Schylling Associates Inc., of Rowley, Mass. is voluntarily recalling 300 Bear "Jack-In-the-Box" toys. The red bead on the crank of the toy can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

  CPSC, Deere & Company Announce Recall of Gator Utility Vehicles
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Deere & Company, of Moline, Ill. is voluntarily recalling 4,600 Gator Utility Vehicles. Improper crimping of the brake cables could lead to reduced braking capacity, and in some cases, to failure of the foot pedal brake.

  CPSC, Target Corporation Announce Recall of Multicolored Sidewalk Chalk
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Agglo Corporation, Hong Kong and Target Corporation, Minneapolis, Minn. are voluntarily recalling about 26,000 packages of Multicolored Sidewalk Chalk. The multicolored sidewalk chalk contains high levels of lead, posing a risk of poisoning to young children. The Wisconsin Department of Health tested the chalk and identified the lead in the chalk.

  CPSC, Fisher-Price Announce Recall of Scooters and Mini Bikes
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, (CPSC), Fisher-Price, of East Aurora, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 30,000 electric scooters and about 55,000 electric mini bikes. The motor control circuits can malfunction causing the scooters and mini bikes to continue to run after the power or throttle button is released, posing a risk of injury to children.

  CPSC, Advantage Publishers Group Announce Recall of Children’s Activity Books
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Advantage Publishers Group, of San Diego, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 5,300 “Amazing Baby™ Listen and Play” activity books. The hub of the pink dial embedded in the inside back cover can come off during use in some of these books, posing a choking hazard to young children.

  CPSC, BRIO® Corp. Announce Recall of Toy Drums
 

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), BRIO® Corp., of Germantown, Wis., a subsidiary of BRIO AB of Sweden., is voluntarily recalling 2,100 toy drums. The three rubber feet, which are screwed into the bottom of the drum, could be removed in some cases, posing a choking hazard to young children.

  CPSC Denies Petition to Ban CCA Pressure-Treated Wood Playground Equipment
 

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) voted unanimously today to deny a petition to ban the use of chromated copper arsenate (CCA) pressure-treated wood in playground equipment. CCA manufacturers and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had previously agreed to phase out CCA treatment of wood for most consumer uses by the end of 2003.

  CPSC, Pottery Barn Announce Recall to Issue Important Safety Warning for Halloween House Tealight Holders

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Pottery Barn, of San Francisco, Calif., is issuing a safety warning for their Halloween House Tea Light Holders. Using a plastic tealight in the turret may cause the tealight to flare up, presenting a fire hazard. Only metal tealight holders should be used.

  CPSC, Park Tool USA Announce Recall of Bicycle Floor Pump

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Park Tool USA, of St. Paul, Minn., is voluntarily recalling Professional Bicycle Floor Pumps. The bicycle pump can become over-pressurized with air, forcing the handle to quickly and unexpectedly rise upward, possibly injuring the user.

  CPSC, Home Line Industries Announce Recall of Bunk Beds

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Sony Corp., of Tokyo, Japan, is voluntarily recalling 3,600 Bunk Beds. These bunk beds have openings between the guardrails and between guardrails and the end structures that are too large. A child's body could slide between the opening and become trapped by the child's head. This poses a strangulation hazard to children.

    CPSC Announces Results of Investigation of Yo-Yo Water Ball Toys

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission believes there is a low but potential risk of strangulation from the yo-yo water ball toy” The stretchy cord of the toy can wrap around a child’s neck when the child swings the toy overhead like a lasso. Parents who are concerned about this risk could, in addition to closely supervising the use of this toy, cut the cord off the toy (leaving a squishy toy ball for children to play with) or throw the toy away.

  CPSC, Graco Children’s Products Announce New Safety Instructions to Prevent Injuries with Portable Play Yards with Raised Changing Tables

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Graco Children’s Products Inc., of Exton, Pa., is providing new instructions for about 538,000 “Pack ‘n Play” portable play yards with raised changing tables. When children are placed in these portable play yards when the changing table is still in place, they can crawl under and lift the table up. If this occurs, a child’s head and neck can become trapped between the changing table and the play yard rail, causing a strangulation hazard. The recall is designed to warn consumers of this hazard, and to provide warning labels to affix to the changing tables.

  CPSC, Apothecary Products Inc. Announce Recall of "Comforts" Pacifiers

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Simon & Schuster Inc., of New York, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling 154,000 "Comforts" pacifiers. These pacifiers fail federal safety tests, come apart, and can pose a choking hazard to infants and small children.

  CPSC, Simon & Schuster Announce Recall of Children's Books

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Apothecary Products Inc., of Burnsville, Minn., is voluntarily recalling 26,000 Dora the Explorer Children's Board Book. A plastic replica of a balloon attached to the book can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

  CPSC, Firm Announce Recall of Bottled Water with Sport Caps

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), CCDA Waters LLC, of Atlanta, Ga., is voluntarily recalling 3.2 million Bottled Water with Push-Pull Sports Cap in 8 oz., 8.5 oz. and .33 liter bottle sizes. When pulled to open, the drinking spout on the sports cap can unexpectedly come off, posing a choking hazard for young children.

  CPSC, SunTech Enterprises Inc. Announce Recall Baby Walkers

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), SunTech Enterprises Inc., City of Commerce, Calif., is voluntarily recalling 4,100 "Sun Kids" and "Happy Baby" Baby Walkers. The walkers will fit through a standard doorway and are not designed to stop at the edge of a step. Babies using these walkers can be seriously injured or killed if they fall down stairs.

  CPSC, Swimways Corp. Announce Recall of Swim Trainers

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Swimways Corp., of Virginia Beach, Va., is voluntarily recalling 3,400 "Sandy Claws" Swim Trainers. The nylon body strap on the swim trainer can detach or tear from the flotation device and release a child into water, posing a serious drowning hazard to young children.

  CPSC, L.M. Becker & Co. Inc. Announce Recall of Toy Necklaces

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), L.M. Becker & Co. Inc., of Kimberly, Wis., is voluntarily recalling 1.4 million Toy Necklaces. The necklace's pendant contains high levels of lead, posing a risk of poisoning to young children.

   CPSC, Industry & Safety Groups Mark Baby Safety Month with Drowning Prevention Campaign

September is Baby Safety Month. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association, Inc.            CPSC, Fisher-Price Announce Recall of Little People® Animal Sounds Farms

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, (CPSC), Fisher-Price, of East Aurora, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 67,000 Little People® Animal Sounds Farms manufactured from June 17, 2002 through July 31, 2002. Two small metal screws that hold the toy "stall doors" in place can come off, posing an aspiration or choking hazard to young children.

  CPSC, Battat Incorporated Announce Recall of Drumsticks Sold with Toy Drum Sets

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Battat Incorporated, of Plattsburgh, NY, is voluntarily recalling about 300,000 sets of toy drumsticks sold with the Parents Bee Bop Band drum sets. The end piece of the drumstick handle can break off, posing a choking hazard to young children. Additionally, the screw at the end of the drumstick can loosen and detach, posing a choking hazard.

  CPSC, Dynacraft Industries Inc. Announce Recall of BMX Bicycles

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Dynacraft Industries Inc., of San Rafael, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 52,900 BMX bicycles. The stems on these bicycles can loosen during use, causing riders to lose control and fall.

  CPSC, Playskool Announce Recall of Magic Start Crawl 'n Stand Toys Sold Only at Wal-Mart

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Playskool, of Pawtucket, R.I., is voluntarily recalling about 300,000 Magic Start Crawl 'n Stand toys. The toy, which is designed to encourage crawling babies to pull themselves up and stand, can tip over during use and strike falling babies in the head, face or neck, resulting in injuries.

  CPSC, Kindermusik International Announce Recall of "Fiddlesticks" Instruments

Kindermusik International, of Browns Summit, N.C., is recalling 32,000 Fiddlestick instruments. Fiddlesticks are wooden rhythm instruments designed for use in the Kindermusik classroom and at home. The recalled instrument is 7" long, 1" in diameter, and is made of wood. It is hollowed out in the middle. Steel balls are inserted into the middle of the instrument to create a shaker sound and the ends are capped with wooden plugs. They are primarily sold as part of a music instructional kit. Kindermusik educators sold the music kits, including the Fiddlesticks, in the United States and Canada from December 2002 through January 2003.

  CPSC, TNT Fireworks Announce Recall of Party Poppers Sold at Wal-Mart

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), American Promotional Events Inc., doing business as TNT, of Florence, Ala., is voluntarily recalling about 4,000 Party Poppers. The Party Popper is a rocket-shaped device that shoots into the air when the string is pulled. The cone-shaped top can pop off rapidly, and can hit and injure both children and adults.

  CPSC, Learning Curve Int'l Inc. Announce Recall of Lamaze Activity Toys

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Racing Champions Ertl/Learning Curve Int'l., Inc. (RCE/LCI), of Chicago, IL is voluntarily recalling approximately 3,800 children's activity toys. There are two types of activity toys involved in this recall. One toy is a flower shaped toy intended to attach to a stroller, with a green painted metal wire on which plastic beads slide along. The item is the Lamaze Flower Stroller Wrap (SKU #97222). The other toy is a floor-based toy with a foam stuffed base, a blue painted metal wire on which plastic beads and stuffed animal heads slide along. This item is the Lamaze Soft Bead Buddies (SKU #97325). Each item has a sewn-in label with the Lamaze logo on the front. These toys were sold in March 2003 through specialty and toy stores nationwide for around $19.99

  CPSC, Raymond Oak Inc. Announce Recall of Toy Chests

Raymond Oak Inc., of Fountain Valley, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 200 toy chests. The toy chests are wooden and were manufactured with a natural birch or oak finish. The chests measure 36-inches in length, 20-inches in width and 21-inches in height. A sticker on the toy chests reads "MADE IN CHINA" and "SC51CT-MP." Furniture stores nationwide sold the recalled toy chests from May 2000 through January 2002 for about $99.

  CPSC, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Announce Recall of Woody Dolls

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is voluntarily recalling about 40,000 Woody dolls sold at the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, DISNEY'S VERO BEACH Resort, Magic of Disney and Flight Fantastic shops located at the Orlando International Airport and Disney's Worldport shop located at Pointe Orlando. The Woody doll's clothing has buttons that can detach, posing a choking hazard for young children.

  CPSC, S. Rothschild & Co. Announce Recall to Repair Girls' Hooded Winter Jackets

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), S. Rothschild & Co. Inc., of New York, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling for repair about 37,000 girls' iridescent, hooded winter jackets. The rubber petal and metal snap can break off of the jacket, posing a choking hazard to young children.

  CPSC, MOSA Sports Announce Recall of Bicycle Helmets

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), MOSA Sports, of Hermosa Beach, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 1,250 "Five 40" brand bicycle helmets. These helmets fail impact testing required under CPSC's Safety Standard for Bicycle Helmets, violating the Consumer Product Safety Act. Riders wearing these helmets are not adequately protected from falls, and could suffer head injuries.

  CPSC, Lands' End, Inc., Announce Recall of Little Kids' Parkas

Lands' End Inc. of Dodgeville, Wis., is voluntarily recalling approximately 6,000 children's parkas. The recalled parkas are style numbers 79725 and 79721. Style numbers can be found on the top line of a small label that is immediately behind the larger garment care label. (On the reversible down parka, shown below at left, this label will be found inside the pocket. On the fur-trimmed down parka, shown below at right, the label can be found on the neckline.) The parkas were sold through the Lands' End catalog, web site and certain Sears, Roebuck and Co. retail stores from November 2002 through mid-January 2003 for $79.50 or below.

  CPSC Denies Petition on Product Registration Cards for Children's Products

Today, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) voted 2-to-1 (Commissioner Thomas Moore dissenting) to deny a petition to require product registration cards for children's products.
